Our
Tongue is Stuck in Our Cheek.... We missed it! More recently, we are seeing what we missed. It appears that most folks are not particularly interested in anything different from what they have thought, believed, or done. It's just easier to leave everything as it has been. Nothing new. Just don't rock the boat. Those who appear to "search" for a better game only want that if it doesn't require too much work. The "easy" life, instant gratification world has caught up with golf, too. It's finally coming clear. Took more than twenty years, but now we get the message. All this time, we have addressed the problems golfers most often ask about. Our thought was that they really wanted to arrive at a point where their games were consistent... with repeatable swings, reliable under pressure, and capable of responding to their best levels of confidence. After this much time, we see something quite different: "IT AIN'T SO..." After all, who wants to get good enough that their games are never in doubt. Apparently, it's the doubt, confusion, uncertainty, fear, arousal in the face of failure and death, that brings the golfer to the edge. The ingredients of challenge. At least that's what the apologists say when they can't get the results they want. Who would ever want to find a handle for those moments of frustration? If we solve the problems, what will we do for fun? Living dangerously is so much more romantic and interesting. If it's easy, why do it? Please... don't ever let us find out what we really are doing. If it becomes predictable, there'll be no reason for the 19th hole anymore. That would leave us nothing to talk about over our beer. And that may be the strangest mystery of all ....Apparently, except for a very few, golfers seem to thrive on failure and love the pain that goes with it. And golf does afford a great opportunity to practice shifting the blame....It's the clubs. the weather, the course conditions, the out of bounds stakes, the pin positions, the stupid tip I read in the magazine, what my teacher told me, the noise from the airport, the birds flying over, something my partner said before I putted, what I had for breakfast.... or whatever you want to add. And I forgot my two Advil. Golf gives us a chance for copping out that we just don't get anywhere else. So....the bottom line is..... Not much for us to do here. A new approach only cuts mustard for those who want it cut. And since there's not much call for mustard...... and continuing the way we've always done it has so many side bars of benefit, there's simply no desire to change. Stumbling and bumbling is just... too... much... funnnnnnn! |
